How many of us have said, “This is the year I am going to start fresh, accomplish, and stay the course with all of my fitness goals!”  We can then fast-forward two months later to find all of our New Year’s enthusiasm for these goals has slowly faded away.

These 4 simple to follow tips and strategies when used and applied over the New Year will help keep you committed and motivated towards continued success!

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

A very common pitfall when starting a new fitness program is doing too much strenuous activity so quickly that our bodies can’t properly adjust to the new demands placed on it.

When we can’t adjust quick enough we run the risk of extreme muscle soreness, fatigue, and injury that soon enough we say to ourselves, “It’s not worth it” then we stop our program completely.

Just remember slow and steady wins the race.

Getting Rid of the “All or Nothing” Mentality

It is far too easy to say, “I have missed a few days or weeks of exercise so there is no way I will get results now. I just don’t have the time and energy to exercise so I might as well quit”.

Getting rid of this “All or Nothing” mentality, a more positive approach would be to say, “It’s never too late for me to get back on track with my workouts and I can still achieve the results I want. I will be able to find the extra time and energy needed to fit in exercise during my day”.

Amazing workouts to keep you consistent and on track toward your goals can be accomplished in as little as 10 minutes, when done as a circuit, a few days a week.

Make it Fun, Challenging, and Different

Exercise should be free from the boredom of doing the same routines over and over again without increasing the challenge of the workouts along the way.

The best way to stay the course with consistent exercise and gain results without getting bored is always to switch up your daily or weekly exercise routines with new, motivating, and challenging workouts.  Do this by incorporating different styles of training, while varying intensity and duration of each workout.

Visualize, Write Down, and Track Your Goals

It is extremely important to always have a clear vision of your goals and be able to write them down and visualize them both mentally and physically each day.  The clearer your goals are the better opportunity you have to reach them.

By also continuing to focus on the reasons why you want accomplish your’ goals in the times of struggle and even success, it can help give that extra boost of encouragement you need to reach them.

The word “diet”

Now just to be clear, we are not saying to eat like it’s Thanksgiving every day.  What we don’t like is the word “diet” and all its misconceptions.  The fact is we are all on a diet whether healthy or unhealthy.  We may be trying to lose weight or gain weight (and yes some people have trouble gaining weight).  It might work for some people to keep track of every calorie consumed in their “diet” and every calorie burned, but for most people it is very difficult to keep up with that type of regimented program for a long period of time.  This is why many experience the weight gain and loss yo-yo affect.

Let’s talk “Choices” not diet…

We think for most people it comes down to making healthy choices in regard to our nutrition and exercise.  As each of us goes through our day there are moments where a choice has to be made with respect to a healthy lifestyle.  The key step here is to identify those ”moments of truth” in the grocery store, at the restaurant, or at the fitness club and realize we have the choice on what decision to make.  It’s about taking responsibility for those choices.

Accountability and you…

We all need to be accountable to ourselves when it comes to our lifestyle choices and take responsibility for their consequences.  In the end no “diet” will work until you as an individual recognize the “moments of truth” in your daily routine and make the decisions that will support a healthy lifestyle.  Ultimately you control how you choose to follow and be accountable for the nutrition and exercise programs you participate in.

It started with two guys with a meaningful passion and larger than life dream. That meaningful passion consisted of truly wanting to help clients achieve the best possible long-term health and fitness results based off of their desired goals. The training philosophy of Functional Fitness can be very dynamic in nature when explaining and describing it’s concepts. Functional Fitness is the idea of training many muscle groups to work together at one time to mimic and improve real-life activities and real-life body positions and movements. Life requires the body to have strength, balance, flexibility, power, coordination, and proper muscle tone which all can be improved through Functional Fitness. This type of training can also be specifically beneficial for athletes and sports, the elderly and aging population, and injury prevention. This is the concept that applies to the Life Changing Results.
